About the book:

Visiting Samoa for the first time, Tailevai is overwhelmed with the many sights of the island country. But his trip is also fraught with an inner turmoil. Tanielu doesn’t understand Samoan and feels he doesn’t belong among the people of the island. His people.

This saddens the young boy and soon he begins to feel like an outsider. Seeing this, his family set out to prove him wrong, for a person’s heritage is more than the language they speak and the place they were born.

This bilingual book offers readers the story in both English and Samoan, providing a rich cultural experience. Please note, the English and Samoan translations are included together and cannot be purchased separately.

We do this by sharing stories from our lived experience as Pacific People. This is coupled with our teams cultural knowledge and expertise in translation and interpretation. We frame our stories in a way where young readers are able to be see themselves in stories visually and thematically.

Our bestsellers are in the English and Samoan language so a majority of the themes center around the Fa'aSamoa - the Samoan way of life, cultural identity and traditions.

How do you ensure that your books are translated accurately?

After writing the copy and pairing it with illustrations, we run our translations through at least three Gagana Samoa Language Experts and Cultural Advisors.
